Melanie brisbin
3-5's AM and 2's class teacher
Hi! My name is Melanie. I began teaching this year after completing my Associates Degree at Everett Community College. My plan was to continue on and work with special needs children in elementary school. When I began teaching preschool while I waited to return to school, I decided I love teaching toddlers.
My focus as a teacher has always been on children's social/emotional development. I believe that working with families to become "partners" in their children's growth and development can be very beneficial to the child as they learn to trust and also to help coach them along as they continue their growth. I feel a cooperative encompasses all aspects of growth for a child. Not simply an education but a complete, well-rounded program of support and development in social/emotional, educational and identity/sell learning. The play-based model allows a child to do what they do best. Learn through play with their 5 senses. I am learning to be an emergent teacher. Learning new skills regularly so that I can adapt my classes based on what the children are interested in.
I like to bring a childlike feel to the classroom and believe children need to be heard and respected. Bringing each child, a day of wonder and innocence as they explore the world around them is a blessing to me to be a part of. Nothing is more rewarding then being a part of nurturing the blooming child, individually in their own uniqueness. For each child to feel loved, seen and heard, because it is then that they grow.

3-5's PM class Teacher
My 1st year in a Co-operative school was in Lake Stevens with my own child. I loved the play-based aspect of learning and loved watching my son excel. We found not only a great preschool, but a family of soon to be lifelong friends. When my son started in elementary school, a teacher position opened, and also a new chapter in my life. I started taking Early Childhood Education classes online and at night, and eventually earned both my Initial and Short Teaching Certificate’s. I am currently on track to receive my Associates Degree in the coming year. I have found that my many years of teaching and coaching young children has made this career choice my favorite!
Parent Educators
As Parent Educator's, Kirsten, Ricci and Angelica provide support for families. They share their knowledge and experience and teach parenting techniques during the monthly parent meetings in addition to in-the-moment tips during class time. They are also available for one-on-one discussions during class time or by appointment at different times and are excellent resources for individual parenting concerns, at-home (or school) behavior problems, or any questions that come up with raising little people that depend entirely on their adults.
