PARENT RESPONSIBILITIES

Cooperative preschool requires a commitment from parents and/or guardians.  A cooperative preschool is a parent run school.  In general regardless of which class your child is enrolled in a parent (or approved representative) is required to:

  • Attend and participate in class one day each week, or find a qualified substitute (responsible adult).
  • Attend the monthly parent meetings to assist with the business of the preschool, vote on preschool issues, be notified of upcoming events and participate in parent education.  Important parenting topics are discussed during the parent education portion of the meeting.  Topics might include discipline, brain development, child temperament, sibling issues, and anything parents have questions about.   Parents receive the support of their peers and the Parent Educator while relating individual and shared experiences and challenges.  Meetings are generally two hours and are listed on the school calendar handed out at the beginning of the year.
  • Become a board member OR hold one of the available parent jobs necessary for preschool operations.
  • Participate in school fundraisers.
  • Provide the class snack on a rotating basis.
  • Be responsible for periodic weekend preschool cleanings and a group “all school clean” at the end of the school year.
  • Pay tuition on time and in full.
  • Participate in the business of the preschool by electing a board comprised of members from all classes. The board meets monthly to facilitate operations of the preschool and communicate with the families and the college. The meeting dates are announced and open to all members of the preschool.

Parents of newly enrolled students will receive copies of the MCP by-laws and the Parent Handbook as well as detailed information about the requirements discussed in this section.  If you would like more information please contact us.
